It’s late 2003, and I’m interviewing to become Chico Wang’s “minion.” Essentially, it was someone who would learn the business and assist on set. I first emailed Chico when he was running LukeFord.com, and he took Curt and me out to lunch at a Thai restaurant.
Curt was the editor for Anabolic and Diabolic Video. He was much more than just a “cutter.” Curt could take a new director, sit him down in the editing bay, and show him how to make his content better. Then he’d add his own magical touch to every scene. And I mean every scene.
Curt, along with Chico, brought a style of humor to porn that, in my opinion, has never been matched—and I don’t think anyone has come close since. He also edited movies for Sal Genoa, John Strong, and probably a few others.
Curt was pumping out so many DVDs that he had his own room at the studio: a bed, a bathroom, a shower, a fridge…everything. He literally lived at the studio and was an editing machine.
Oh, and did I fail to mention that Curt drove us to that Thai restaurant while a bottle of urine rolled around the back seat next to me? Quite the first impression.
Eventually, Curt worked his magic on me in the editing bay, too. In fact, I even edited several scenes that made it onto released DVDs. This was around 2006.
He passed away in 2019, and I missed his memorial because I got hit with a severe case of bronchitis.
They truly don’t make them like Curt, and I often think about him. I hope Jumper McLedge (an inside joke) is resting in eternal peace.
