“You worked behind the scenes of adult video? That must’ve been so much fun!”
I’d usually hear something like that whenever someone found out I edited porn and used to work on set. What they don’t see are the headaches and diva attitudes I had to deal with just to make ends meet. Here are a few:
Around 2006, we shot Nadia Styles (pictured). She showed up to set, feeling under the weather, the moment I opened the front door, barked, “You have to go get me soup.” Not a “Hey, good to see you—my name is Nadia Styles,” or even, “I was wondering if you could help me out.” Nope. Just an order. I was immediately annoyed. We’d already had an uncomfortable encounter before, where her people skills really shone. I don’t think I ever got her that soup.
Or the time James Deen snapped at me because I couldn’t read his lips when he asked for a towel.
Or the time Joachim Kessef wanted to fight me because I told Chico Wang that Joachim’s shooting style was different—not better, not worse. He completely flipped out.
Or the time some forgettable bimbo got upset because she thought I had “gotten too close” to her. That was a first. I honestly don’t remember her name; she was in and out of the business pretty quickly.
Or the time Jada Fire, seeing me arrive to assist on her shoot, looked me up and down and said, “Eww. You’re not in the scene, are you?”
That one really hurt.
