Other than being the male talent on set, editing porn is pretty much every straight guy’s dream job. Or is it? Actually, I guess you could be gay and love editing dicks going into the buttholes of other guys, no judgment here. Anyway, I first learned about digitizing content in late 2003, with the help of Chico Wang. He showed me how to capture scenes from DVDs, assemble a timeline, and export it. Oh, can’t forget the watermark. Eventually, he trusted me to cut scenes where I performed because he “trusted” me. Trust is huge when a director knows their content is in good hands. It’s a bond and trust that should not be taken for granted.
Chico later died in 2007.
Anyway, I later got brought on board by Billy Watson to edit for his network of sites, Manojob, TheDickSuckers, and MrPOV.He knew that I edited for Chico, and his own workload was getting massive. Billy was shooting for his own sites AND the Dogfart Network of sites. That’s a lot of content to maintain, so he asked if I would cut the content he owned. I said yes!
Wait, why did I type that as if he proposed to me?
This was the summer of 2007, and, except for some breaks from the industry, I’ve been cutting scenes since the final years of the George W. Bush Administration.
So does it ever get boring? Monotonous? Painstakingly difficult?
Boring, no. Monotonous, sometimes. Difficult, only if there are technical issues that suddenly arise. I’ve been fortunate to edit for Billy Watson and Romeo Mancini. I always referred to Billy as “The Mad Scientist” because his creative mind NEVER ceased functioning. NEVER. No two scenes appeared to be the same. Romeo gets the absolute best out of his talent, and he’s always open to creative suggestions and booking recommendations. He’s a phenomenal cameraman and performer. He makes my job super easy, and I can’t wait to see him enter the AVN Hall of Fame. Someday soon, I hope.
As I mentioned earlier, technical issues will inevitably occur—it’s a numbers game. However, those instances make one a better editor and valuable to the team.
