Part of my job was to ensure that any given shoot went as smoothly as possible. While there were things out of my control–talent flaking, talent unable to ‘arise’ to the occasion, location being an issue–I felt a sense of great pride in capturing content that stood out from other places. Most studios record the photo shoot while also getting some words from the talent. And while that’s all nice and dandy, I wanted my footage to shine. The late Chico Wang once told me, ” I want the viewer to feel that the girl would immediately drop to her knees and blow him in a bar.” He also said the appeal of bukkakes was “At some point you can see her soul leave her body.”
He had quite a way with words.
Chico Wang–other than Billy Watson–shot the best behind-the-scenes footage in the business. I was lucky enough to learn under both of them in the nearly 20 years I was there—even though I still edit. I try to find the girl’s personality or something she might be into. One was into UFOs, and the other was into getting roughed up in her personal life. Some of the guys would chime in, and one inadvertently admitted….on camera…that he had just gotten out of prison. I immediately notified the editor to omit that from the final cut. The fun leading up to the main event gives fans a glimpse into a world they are not too familiar with. I understand that many would happily trade places with me, and I do not take that for granted. Hopefully I can return to set and interview the next generation of performers.
