I believe our industry is at a point where it needs to take a more intentional and structured approach to safety, particularly when it comes to who is granted access to professional spaces and environments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Recent incidents involving performers and outside social media influencers have brought renewed attention to concerns around boundaries, safety protocols, and the lack of consistent standards regarding access to talent and production settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I want to share this perspective from my background in personal security, property protection, and asset protection over the past 20 years, as well as academic training in criminal justice and law. My goal here is not to criticize individuals, but to offer practical suggestions based on experience with risk management and real-world security vulnerabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There are two key areas I believe deserve more attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the most overlooked areas of risk in any public-facing industry is digital security. Performers, creators, and industry professionals should strongly consider adopting password managers such as Keeper or 1Password as a standard tool in their personal and professional workflows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As online visibility increases, so does exposure to risk. Individuals in public-facing roles are frequently targeted for phishing attempts, impersonation, and account compromise. In many cases, attackers do not need sophisticated methods\u2014simple password reuse or weak credentials can be enough to gain access.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Improving password hygiene and reducing reliance on repeated credentials across platforms is one of the simplest and most effective ways to reduce unnecessary exposure to risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The industry has grown significantly with the rise of digital platforms, making it easier than ever for individuals to enter under the broad label of \u201ccontent creator.\u201d While this openness has created new opportunities and avenues for independent work, it has also reduced the level of screening and familiarity that once existed in more structured environments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As a result, it is not always clear who is entering professional spaces or what their background may be. This creates a challenge when it comes to maintaining consistent safety standards and protecting performers in potentially vulnerable situations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Where possible, stronger vetting practices\u2014such as background checks, agency oversight, or community-driven accountability\u2014could help reduce risk. At a minimum, there should be a shared expectation that individuals with known histories of abusive or exploitative behavior are not placed in positions where they can access or work closely with performers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The intent here is not to restrict access or innovation, but to reinforce professionalism and safety as core values of the industry. As the space continues to evolve, maintaining trust and accountability should remain a priority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
